Furry Friends Rescue
Mutt Ville
The tragic truth is that every day, dogs in good health with wonderful personalities are euthanized. Why? They’re older. And because they’re older, they’re not considered adoptable.
Shelter workers see it everyday: a dog is brought in because he can’t jog with his guardian anymore. Or he needs a little time to get up the stairs. Or he’s simply not a puppy.
Muttville’s mission is to change the way the world thinks about and treats older dogs and to create better lives for them through rescue, foster, adoption and hospice.
We reach out to senior and special needs rescue dogs; find suitable homes for those dogs that are adoptable; and offer end of life care for those that are not. These are not just shelter dogs; every day, dogs are moved from loving homes to concrete cages because their guardians have died or moved or simply can’t care for them anymore.
If we had our way, no dog would spend its last days in a cold, dark shelter. There is so much love and joy in these dogs! Bringing these special dogs into a home is not only good for the dogs, but such loving, mellow dogs transform the quality of life for the people who adopt or foster them.
Bad Rap
We’re a small and busy non-profit organization of pit bull owners, trainers, educators, rescuers, and supporters. BAD RAP evolved out of a desire to respond to the difficult issues facing this misunderstood breed.
Nor Cal Beagles
Our mission is to help beagles find loving homes throughout the Northern California region and provide education to current and potential beagle owners about this marvelous, challenging breed.
We work hard to find homes for unwanted beagles. We also strive to help members of the Bay Area community find access to spay and neuter programs for their pets.
Hop Along
Hopalong & Second Chance Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization whose mission is to eliminate the euthanasia of adoptable animals throughout Northern California. Since our founding in 1993, we have collectively saved over 16,000 animals, placing them in loving, permanent homes. We also provide spay/neuter services, animal advocacy and humane education in schools and in after school programs, and community outreach on the benefits of spay/neutering and the critical need for animal adoption.
From our office in the East Bay, CA, hundreds of volunteers and a small staff work tirelessly with shelters to rescue animals at risk of euthanasia. We take a multifaceted approach to finding permanent, stable and loving homes for our rescued friends: they are fostered in a home environment, evaluated for temperament, and many receive basic training to make them better companions for the people who will ultimately take them home.
The dogs and cats featured on this website are accompanied by information on their temperament and needs. You may also find and meet a pet through our Mobile Adoption program—held each weekend in various locations—or through our permanent Bay Area cat adoption sites. We offer behavioral advice and post-adoption support to new pet owners.
Hopalong & Second Chance Animal Rescue prides itself on being accessible and responsive to the community. Our goal is to match you with the animal that will best fit into your lifestyle.
Milo Foundation
The mission of the Milo Foundation is to rescue adoptable at-risk animals, match them to homes best suited to provide lifetime care, rehabilitate those who need it, offer sanctuary to those who are not placed, and educate the public about responsible pet guardianship, including spay/neuter.
Hollister Dog Owners Group
Our mission is to establish a fenced in, off-leash dog park where all well-behaved canine citizens can exercise in a clean, safe environment without endangering or annoying people, property, or wildlife. To develop a beautiful, well-maintained space open to all dog lovers and friends who are willing to uphold the park's rules and restrictions. To view this park as a community project, in partnership with the City of Hollister, designed to satisfy the needs of dog-owners alike.
To promote facilities that appeal to many facets of the population to improve utilization and benefits to all residents. To promote education, training and recreational activities that facilitate responsible dog ownership and better-behaved dogs through the use of volunteers and professional dog trainers.
*We are a non-profit group funded with the Community Foundation for San Benito County.
Nike Animal Rescue
NARF is dedicated to protecting dogs and cats. We strive to eliminate animal overpopulation through spay and neuter programs and public education. Our volunteers rescue and shelter cats and dogs in need. We provide medical care and locate quality, permanent homes for these animals.
peninsula humane society
PHS/SPCA, a private non-profit guided by the humane ethic, builds healthy relationships between people and animals. As an ethical choice, we accept all animals in need of care and often provide a second chance to the neediest animals: those who would otherwise be turned away at so-called “no kill” agencies that accept only highly adoptable animals. We also serve as our County’s provider of animal rescue and control services and, as such, have no control over the number of incoming animals. Our record is outstanding. Since 2003, we have adopted 100% of healthy, adoptable dogs and cats. Our definition of “healthy” is based on the State’s definition: dogs and cats without medical or behavioral issues, those that are fully weaned and social. It excludes obviously unhealthy animals (those with injuries and illnesses or those behaviorally scarred from past treatment and mistreatment) as well as unweaned kittens and feral cats. Still, donations to our Hope Program allow us to make well, then place into new homes approx. 170 animals every month. In February 2008, the Society celebrated accreditation by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) following a comprehensive review of the shelter’s veterinary program. Community education and outreach, partnerships, and a dedicated volunteer group greatly extend our mission and work.
rocket dog
Rocket Dog Rescue is a volunteer based organization serving the greater Bay Area, dedicated to saving homeless and abandoned dogs from over crowded animal shelters. We also help dogs from other areas that have compelling situations where they are in danger of abuse, neglect or euthanasia. Rocket Dog Rescue places non-aggressive dogs into temporary foster homes where they are socialized, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and treated for any medical or behavioral conditions limiting their adoptability. RDR actively searches for permanent homes for its foster dogs by producing and distributing photo-biographic posters, by hosting an actively updated website and by organizing mobile adoption fairs and special events that provide exposure to potential adopters. Rocket Dog Rescue also provides assistance to individuals and animal rescue groups fostering dogs in need of permanent new homes.
Founded in 2001, Rocket Dog Rescue’s ultimate goal is to create a world where all companion animals have loving and permanent homes and where no good natured dogs, no matter what their age, are killed in shelters because they are considered to be surplus or un-adoptable.
Wonderdog
Wonder Dog Rescue and to create an environment of healing and growth for animals and people. We will seek to strengthen the human/animal connection in a number of ways. We intend to expose urban youth to dogs and other animals, offering them the chance to develop respect and to experience the love and companionship that animals offer to people. We will also explore the connections between the creative, conscious and nurturing aspects of our selves through programs that integrate art and animals. These goals will be accomplished in the following ways:
• Offer training for animal guardians, animal care professionals, dog sitters/walkers, trainers, therapists and others in homeopathic healing techniques, including traditional Asian and Western bodywork therapies, herbal medicine, aromatherapy and floral essences. Workshop participants will work on dogs fostered by Wonder Dog and other rescue groups.
• Reach out to at-risk youth and populations that do not have experience with animals, to give them sustained and meaningful opportunities to interact with animals. (both at 650 Fillmore and through our partnership with A Chance for Bliss)
• Offer classes/workshops in creative arts, including writing, improvisational theater, drawing/painting, art and activism.
• Offer practical workshops and events such as monthly microchip clinics, workshops for animal rescue groups and/or small non profits in fundraising, marketing, direct mail, other "how-to skills."
• Volunteer orientations and outreach.
